Hi everybody
I'm new here
can anyone answer my question
can I apply for asylum and at the same time apply for J1 visa waiver HRR
by the way I'm a fulbrighter
one more question in fulbright program what are the chances of accepting a waiver on the basis of persecution.
thanks

Hi,

First, double check the particulars of your visa. Not every J visa holder is subject to the two year requirement.

Second, if your asylum application is successful then this will automatically take care of the two year rule. In other words, an asylum grant is a waiver and there is nothing further you need to do.

You can apply for the waiver independently of asylum. The standard for such a waiver is higher than for asylum, though.

Thankful is right

Once your asylum is granted, it automatically satisfies the J1 waiver.

Thankful is very knowledgeable in immigration issues. It took my attorney 2 months to study this problem.

I possessed J1 by the time I applied for asylum. Don't worry about it. If you are granted asylum you are all set.
