Hi Y'all, I read this on google newsgroup, please someone let us know about the authenticity of this news.

I heard that early this year, there was a new law passed that the
parent of aslyee could emigrate to US without asylee becoming UZ
citizen. Would the asylee at least need to get GC first or is just
getting political asylum enough?

Thanks

Cider_Or ,

What is a UZ citizen? Was this article about OZ (Australia) by any chance or did it specify US ... Maybe it was just a typo and UZ indeed meant US ...

Regards,

Yeah RAsylee, i figured it was a typo since it was posted on the US immigration groups. so it is US
:)

A person with a green card can not get his or her father so how can an asylee do that? i think it is far fetched

Guys, what are you talking about? My husband, who is a primary asylee, has filed for his parents to join him and they received a refugee status in less than 2 years. We were granted asylum by IJ in January, 2000. His parents have been here since June of last year. The primary asylee can file for his parents, the derivative asylee can not.

can you give more detailed information

can you give more detailed information? You parents got green card even before you? Which forms they need to fill out or which lawyer did that for you? I think a lot of us will be very interested in this. This sounds to me too good to be true.

Interesting! Thanks for informing us about that. I wish I knew that at the time. So did he filled up an I -730 form for them?

I checked with my husband and he said that he acted through an immigration lawyer and yes this was done on a basis of his asylum granted status. He has no idea what forms the lawyer filled out. I suggest you guys check with your lawyers for more information. I know they had to provide evidence of persecution in the home country as well and had to go to american embassy for the interview and they received a REFUGEE status. This is all I know guys. I hope this info helps.

All --

Depending on which country you are from, there are also a number of churches and organizations that help approved asylees sponsor their immediate parents and dependent siblings. After contacting them, you will fill out application forms and submit a copy of your approval letter & I-94 with asylee status. They then send the info to the UNHCR office where your family member is and your family members undergo several interviews (including one with the US Embassy) - as well as a medical check. If selected, they are awarded refugee status and are included in the refugees the US Government helps resettle each year.

They enter the USA as refugees and are not subject to the 10,000 visa per (fiscal) year limitations. Thus, it is likely for a parent or sibling to get their greencard and citizenship before the individual who sponsored them. Ironic - isn't it?

Thanks for the clarification. Indeed, my in-laws will get their green card within 2 years time, after filing I485 in July this year, we are scheduled to get it in 2007-2008 IF things go smoothly.

Gilbert, The application for asylum was in early 2000 and it was finally approved 2 months ago in December of 2004. The child was me and I was 22 years old when they originally applied.

we are from Colombia and I just applied for my own assylum recently, but was denied for not filing it in the one year time frame :(
