Asylee with H1 Status... question

I have H1 status from 2007 which expires in 60 days. I got derivative asylum based on my husband last year, 2009.
I'm eligible to apply for GC based on asylum later this year, 2010.
My questions are:
1) Did I lose my H1 status when I got the asylee status?
2) If I did not lose my H1 status, should I ask my employer to file an extension of my H1 just incase something happens with my GC app, that way I will have a plan B.
I'd really appreciate any info.

As an H1, you can only work for one employer. As a derivative asylee, you can work for anyone..dont need any work permits etc. So why do you want to go through the H1 route? Right now you can get an unrestricted SSN and work without any issues for anyone.

So if I was you, I would tell your employer that you dont need them sponsoring you and show your new SSN card.

wantmygcnow,
Thanks for the info, it makes sense, my employer had mentioned applying for an extension.
I'd been thinking of keeping my employer offer open just incase something doesnt workout with my asylum GC. (I'm sure it will be fine tho).
I think I'll just show my employer my new SSN card and let go of the H1 status.
