I would like to know what kind of job I can expect here in USA with Asylee indefinite and Criminal Justice Degree?
I have done a little research and realized that my degree in criminal justice that I've transfered from Latvia is worthless just because I will not be able to work for Govt due to my STATUS. My professor told me that I need as requirement to have done my inership in Police Department.. Ha-ha, "goodluck" I said to myself. NEVER MIND PolDep AND 5 YEARS OF COLLEGE.
By time I'll get my Ctzsp I'll be 100 years old. I'm so upset.........
:( Well never mind my discovery...
Asylee what do you do for living?????????????? Sorry if this is too personal question....

Right now I'm a waitress at the casino in the Atlantic City, NJ

Well most police and correction department positions here require citizenship, as you probably already know. But there are so many opportunities in America that you can certainly find something in another field that you like and is rewarding.

I am sure the jobs we asylees have are all over the map. I myself am an engineer for a Pentagon contractor.

I'm DERIVATIVE Asylee;
I finished my University in Latvia, but wasn't able to transfer my degree fully here (the US and Latvian crim just system is different), so I took some classes here and now to get my US Degree in crim just I need to finish intership in PD, which I can't do due to status

Think similar. Can you transfer your classes, take a few additional ones and go paralegal or legal? Heck, if you can get a job with immigration law firm, an EB-3 might be one of the job benefits, and you'll beat the principal to citizenship.

Our occupations run the gamut, I am sure. I am a partner of a major consulting firm in DC.

call me Shrek thank you for helping me think similar :) , but what is EB-3??

Do not despair. You can do a lot of things as an asylee.

I first worked as an I-banker, got bored and joined the AmeriCorps in South Florida. I am now preparing to enter law school.

thankful, may I ask You: is the AmeriCorps is a branch of US army? I'm sorry I don't know what it is.

No NO No. It is a group of volunteers (generally young college grads) who provide full time community service to disadvantaged communities under the auspices of the federal government.

EB-3 is one of the employment-based green cards - check out this forum. As I figure you don't have a Masters or a PhD, that's what you should be able to qualify for, IF your employer is willing to sponsor you.

I work for the United States Postal Service as a Software Engineer.....your options arent limited..Law practise doesnt need for you to be a citizen..and if you already have a degree..it means you will pick up most of the stuff easily and quickly..

Go to colledge/university. Take LSAT, then 3 years of law school and then take bar exam. Then you can decide what exactly you wish to do. But now your degree from latvia is just a piece of mind for you.

Look,
This is the easiest country in the world to finish your education. We have had it hard in our countries, and here you can make it with less effort. Just transfer your credits into a 4-year school- this will give you at least 60 credits or 2 years in this school. You can then apply to law school or get a Ph.D in criminal justice. The academic arena is the most tolerant institute in this country and they look for diversity. Afterall, they will allow a loser like Mr crap usa2002 to be a doctor ( probably plastic surgeon to fix his small eyes and be white).

God bless America,
I graduated with masters degree in pharmacology in Europe and came to this
country and I am working as a scientist now after 5 years of work I am a senior scientist with a very good pay here in CALI and travelling around the world for business purposes.
This is a great country with full of opportunities.
Good luck my friend

I am in a very bad situation. back to my home country I was working on the PhD in polymer science () when I had to leave country without getting my degree. Here i decided to continue my education and after getting the asylee status in august 2004 I applied for PhD and master's degree to several universities here in California. But I have one huge problem. All universities require original transripts sent from institutions where degrees were earned. The university I graduated from would never issue any document concerning my education under no circumstances because they KNOW I why I left the country and they deniend my requests for transcripts. I do have my own copy of original documens along with my diplomas but no university will accept copies of trascripts (they need official papers with seals and institution's headings and labels). I also have the results of credentional evaluation confirming that my degrees correspond to that of the US but nobody wanted to take it into account. So, guys I couldn't finish the application process. I really want to study here but I didn't want to begin from the ground up. Same problem - I have very high qualification in my specialization, but all positions avaiable in this field require citizenship and clearance I won't get in the nearset future (about 15-20 years). At that time I will be 45 and I am pretty sure that there will be a lot of young smart competitive guys with whom I will be unable to compete. What to do? Well, I am now working as manager in a furniture store, I support myself, but if this is not who I wanted to be all my life.
