Hi Friends,

I was going through the instructions for Travel Document Form I-131. There is a clear warning for visiting COP for those asylees who applied for asylum on or after April, 1997.

What is the consequencies for those who applied earlier than the specified date?

Any clarification on the subject will be much appreciated.

April 1, 1997 was the effective date for a new asylum law in the United States. The Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 rewrote the asylum section (section 208) of the INA, effective April 1, 1997. The new asylum law says in plain language that reavailament is a ground for terminating asylum.

Please don't be so paranoid. IO's have lot better things to do rather than going after PR's who gained PR status through asylum.
Some just acts as if going back to COP is a sin. But it's not a crime nor a sin going COP. Based on circumstances if some one visits COP I sure don't see any problem.
Atique.
