Asylee travel

Hello everybody,

I'm going to travel outside of US using RTD as asylee. What papers should I have with me when entering US in addition to RTD? I have a copy of the Board of Immigration Appeals decision with "asylum is granted" statement and I-485 receipt confirmation. Is it a good idea to have those papers with me?
Also I don't have new I-94 that says "Asylum granted", didn't even apply for it(got my asylum 2 years ago, before that for some time stayed in USA illegally). Do you, guys, think it's necessary to have this document(renewed I-94) when entering US? If yes, how long does it take to get it?

Thanks for your help.

Be careful, I was illegal for 6 month before I got asylum and my lawyer says INS has a right not to let me back into the country for 3 years even if I have RTD.

They are not applying this particular restriction to people on RTD. Travel worry free. As a matter of fact, asylees are a special category under immigration laws and often receive unusual treatment.

Your RTD should be sufficient.

I think you might go to the local IRS office to get a recent print out of your w-2 and travel with it in case if the Immigration officer asks when you came back from trip.

Have nice trip

Asylee don't need anything but RTD to travel. You don't need to carry I 94, NP, W2...

RTD is the only document which is required.

5 days ago I've came back from my first travel overseas (after one year). On USA border I got NO problems at all: I went to the line for "US Passport & Greencard Holders", showed my RTD to an immigration officer who told me "Welcome back! How was your trip?" He sent me to the room where they ID you and about 10 minutes later I recieved back my RTD with the fresh red stemp:
Asylum status granted
Valid to indef
Employment authorized
I wasn't ask for any other evidence proving my asylee status. But still make sure you'll take a "Order of Immigration Judge"
GOODLUCK

hey opinion what port of entry you have used? Idiots in Toronto stamped me with 1 year expiration of status?!?!?

For all intents and purposes, asylees are "permanent residents without a green card". The IRS asked me to check the section of PR when applying for my DEPENDENT's ITIN. This is govt agency.
I have not travelled yet but when I do I will get into the line of PR. I know a couple of asyless who have been following that line whenever they travel

Hi Cl_Asylee,
I didn't give them my I-94. What I understood from my first experience that you DON'T deal with immigration officer when you live the USA.
