Hi guys! Has anybody used a NP to travel outside the US (not COP) and came back with RTD? (no GC yet) Officially i know it is not a right thing to do - but in reality do they really care?
Thanks

If you don't have a GC yet, you should get refugee travel document.Traveling out side US without it will be consider that you abondoned your asylee status and
You will not be able even board a Airplane on the way back without it.usually you will need Valid US residency document to board the plane which usually is in form of re-entry permit, advance parol or refugee travel document. if traveler is not PR he/she will need visa or must be from visa waiver countries to be able to board a airplane .
However you can leave US and come back using NP if you are PR with valid GC on hand.
Good luck

I think he means he has both the NP and RTD, and when exiting US he is gonna use NP, and use RTD when he travels back, correct?

But I have a question, since you have already an RTD, why do you just use RTD to apply for visas and travel back? It would be less troublesome.

kwok, you are right, that what i mean. The thing is that i applied for visa, but they returned my application, i needed to resend it to another consulate and bla bla bla. By this time i already had everything planned and i just couldn't postpone my trip. I had no time for another visa application. And my passport allows me to go to the country i planned without any visa. It is not COP
So what is going to happen guys?

Hmm, that sounds like it would work, because when you return, you'll show an RTD anyway.

And he might be asked how he entered the country which he was visiting. If he has no visa on RTD what he would answer? NP could be a problem. He is not supposed to use ithaving asylee status.

i have my visa application which was returned to me with a note that i have to apply to another consulate. I can say that i really tried to get a visa into RTD, but when they return my application i was already very time limited. Is this explanation good enough?
Can not enjoy my vacation now.

Malel, please search this forum,....as if I read of something before in you case...it seems somebody just traveled out with his/her NP and returned with a blank RTD.

In my understanding, the IO wouldn't challenge you in that case because as long as your NP is still valid you can use it as the travel identity, and if you wanna re-enter US you'll need RTD/AP which you've already had. So I assume the function of RTD to Asylee/refugees is the same as AP to LPR, it is just a reentry permit. I think when you applied for RTD, you have already claimed that you will travel out and DHS issued you the RTD meaning they approved your re-entry. Of course for refugees or asylees RTD can work as a temporary passport since some people lost their nationality, but since you hold the valid NP, and you got a "re-entry permit", why not let you in?

Anyway, you can also write to DHS to ask. Their answer should be the best one to take;-p
Good Luck!
