Asylee Needing to Travel with RTD (no NP)

Hi everyone,

I have been granted asylum, but I haven't applied for a GC yet. I am now needing to travel to third country, Zimbabwe and possibly South Africa to see my family. But the RTD (once I apply and get it) will be the only valid document I will have since my NP has expired long time ago.

I am very concerned about traveling to places like Zimbabwe with just an RTD. I fear that local immigration officials may not recognize it or have little experience dealing with an asylee like myself.

Does anybody have any advice or experience they would like to share with regarding traveling with an RTD?

Thanks a lot.

First of all check the website of consulate if they accept RTD for visa purposes, and from that point you will know if you will be able to get visa or not. I think this is the first step you need to take.

UAE does not accept RTDs and they have clearly mentioned on their website. I have recently travelled to a neighbouring country with the similar situation. I used NP to get the visa and used RTD to return back to US.
Coming back to US the person at the counter was kind of confused as what to use since they don't have RTD option in their system he told me to wait came back after half n hour and told me he will put me as a citizen and will put some notes underneath.
Entering US i was taken to secondary inspection and was asked lot of questions and after that they stamped my RTD. I hope it helps and Best of luck !

coolmint, i am also planning to travel to dubai can u please tell us with detail what happened at the air port when u were exiting and what did you show that they let you on the plane to us. also when you came here did you show your passport, which document did u get the exit stap?

Thanks to everyone that responded.
I called the Zimbabwean and South African embassies and they both claim to accept RTDs.
