Asylee & medical exam

I filed my I-485 in 2000. I was fingureprinted in Aug/04. I talked to a couple of my buddies who filed their I-485 in 1999, and got their GC recently. Both told me that they did their medical exam at the time they filed I-485. My lawyer didn't advise me to do a medical exam nor I got INS' instruction to provide medical results. Was there any change on the process? Should I expect to get INS' instruction to do med exam? Or, was the med exam for asylees waived? Please advise. If you could, it would be helpful for asylees like me if you post some resources explaining the issue.

thanks.

The medical exam for asylees WAS NOT waived

it is only waived for refuges.

If you just take your time to read an instruction to I-485, you’ll find the following information on a page 2:

B. Individuals applying for adjustment of status through
the local INS office and asylees applying for adjustment of
status through the Service Center: If you are filing your
adjustment of status application with the local INS office, or if you are an asylee filing an adjustment of status application with the Service Center, one year after you were granted asylum, do not submit a medical report with your adjustment of status application. Wait for further instructions from INS about how and where to take the medical exam and submit the medical exam report.

just wait for now. INS will send you a request for the medical when they ready to adjust your application.
