I've been able to get both subsidized and unsubsidized federal loans as a student. I think a good place to start is to talk to the Financial Aid Office at your educational institution. Also check out these two links:

As an asylee, you are considered "eligible noncitizen" (see http://studentaid.ed.gov/students/p...glish/important-terms.htm#elegible_noncitizen).

GOod luck. Feel free to contact me if you have more questions.

You are treated like a permanent resident for this purpose--you can get all kinds of grants and loans.

Yes, your first step to fill out a FAFSA then by your income they will notify your school if you eligle for any pell (free aid) but anyone can get student loans...if you dont want to get in debts, apply for a community college or a public and cheap senior college (4 years)...

yes.

I've got Pell Grant, Univ Grant, Government Fee Waiver. (esp. if u're above 24, claim urself independent. and fill the FAFSA.)

I've got Pell Grant, State Grants, Federal Grants, Perkins Loan and both subsidized and unsubsidized Staford loans + scholarships. It pretty much covers the entire tuition+ board at a state university.
