Are the petitioned parents required to stay with the petitioner?

Hi, newbie here. Here's my situation. I've recently become a US citizen and will be petitioning my parents to come over to the US. Once they get a chance to come over, are they required to stay at the residence of the petitioner? Can they stay at another location (ex: at an aunt's place that is in a different state) while the process is not yet complete? They don't like the winters here in the Northeast so they're thinking of staying in California. Hoping for feedback. Thanks!

I do not see a problem. Why do you think it is an issue?

The only requirement they may have to comply with is AR-11, but even that is subjective in this case since they are just visiting your family, right?

Oh, I didn't make myself clear, I'm petitioning them to live and stay here in the US. It's not just a visit but an immigration petition. I just think that there may be a problem since I thought that it may be requirement that while that process is in play and they are here in the US, they may need to stay with me. But I don't see that in the forms.

No, I did not make myself clear.

Once in the United States, there is no restriction on where they stay.

However, what I wanted to say was --- if they go and live with your aunt, are they required to file AR-11?

That is where their intention to move to Aunt's place or just visiting Aunt's place comes in. If they move to your Aunt's place - they will need to file AR-11, and in some cases (not sure if immigration petition falls in that or not) the file will need to move to CA. However, if they are just "visiting" your Aunt - this does not come into play.

In hindsight, I would say do not worry - since their permanent place of abode will be your house - and they are just going to Aunt's for a couple of months to avoid the weather.

I think you are not clear how you wanna petition your parents. If you are having them to come here for visit, they will be given a visa and they can stay wherever they want as long as their visa is valid. If you want petition them for a permanent visa, they must stay in their home country for their visa to go through. Once they come here they will be given a greencard, and they are free to stay wherever in the country they wanna stay.

however, if you are thinking of your parents staying here while their visa is going through, that is not goann happen. they must is stay in home country for the visa to go through...good luck
