Are ASCs open on Friday 6/11?

I heard today that all State and Federal agencies were going to be closed on Friday 6/11 in memorial to Reagan. Of course, my FP2 is scheduled for Friday 6/11. Are ASCs considered Federal agencies? If I go, and it's closed, should I just go back the next day? Santa Rosa ASC used to be open on Saturdays... I did my FP1 there on a Saturday.

[side note: I live just across the San Francisco County/Marin County line in Marin. For me, it's 19 miles to the SF ASC, but 50+ miles to the Santa Rosa ASC. But USCIS makes all Marin residents travel to the Santa Rosa ASC. ] :(

Why waiting till 6/11. Why can't you go before that? You can as well try going to SF ASC and get it done.

UPDATE: I just called the National Service Center and they stated that all USCIS offices are operating as normal on Friday (which I find odd, seeing that Bush stated all Federal Offices would be closed Friday, along with Wall St., etc.) But she said they could decide otherwise on the day before, so to call back on Thursday and verify.

And, in answer to your question:

Because my wife is at home looking after our newborn twins. We need to go together, and we can't conveniently bring them with us into SF when I come in to work. We had a babysitter scheduled for Friday.

The sad part is that I work ONE block from the SF ASC. I don't want to process my prints separate to my wife - doing things out of sync will only add to USCIS confusion.

Try Sat.

Wik,
Most ASCs are open Sat. If you couldn't get it doe on 6/11. You may try 6/12 (Sat.). As ASC is about 1 block from your work you may go there and ask them.
Good Luck

I just walked over there (took 2 minutes)...

The first guy didn't understand the question I was asking (!), then a woman overheard me and said that ASCs were open Friday. They are not Federal agencies. But USCIS offices might be closed... On the USCIS web site is states that ASCs are closed on Federal holidays, but maybe Friday's Federal closure is not considered an official 'Federal holiday'...

So, as usual, more information and less clarity. I think we will go on Friday at the appointed time. If they are closed, they might have a sign on the door with instructions... hopefully to come back on Saturday. If they are open, we are done.

It's like living in the film 'Brazil'...

My passport stamping appointment was setup for 6/11 at the Santa Ana office using Infopass (they do not entertain walkins for stamping now). I got a call from them this afternoon saying they are closed on that day. They have rescheduled our appointments to 6/25.

That they actually called you is amazing in itself.

And here is Bush's actual decree:

Executive Order Providing for the Closing of Government Departments and Agencies on June 11, 2004 *

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and laws of the United States of America, it is hereby ordered as follows:

Sec. 1. All executive departments, independent establishments, and other governmental agencies shall be closed on June 11, 2004, as a mark of respect for Ronald Reagan, the fortieth President of the United States. That day shall be considered as falling within the scope of Executive Order 11582 of February 11, 1971, and of 5 U.S.C. 5546 and 6103(b) and other similar statutes insofar as they relate to the pay and leave of employees of the United States.

Sec. 2. The first sentence of section 1 of this order shall not apply to those offices and installations, or parts thereof, in the Department of State, the Department of Defense, the Department of Justice, the Department of Homeland Security, or other departments, independent establishments, and governmental agencies that the heads thereof determine should remain open for reasons of national security or defense or other essential public business.

I guess the needs of immigrants do not constitute 'essential public business'.
