Yep, you're probably right about not that many Europeans wanting to use "a free" GC card now since it looks like that America's hit a recession. But living in Europe I can tell you that things aren't that great either here...Sure, it looks great on tv, all the economic growth, strong euro...BUT, one big downside about Europe and EU is that it's gotten so ridiculously expensive! Waay too expensive for the average person. Food and housing are especially pricey. While you can get a house in some parts of the US for 150,000 $, a little older, small 2 bedroom apartment costs in my city 300,000 $! And young educated people have a difficult time finding a job, almost any job, as the job market is super tight (at least in my area) and controlled by cliques. And then we, because of high housing prices, can't move out of our parents' house and live there until the age 35 or 40, sometimes our entire lives.
But I agree, it's easier and perhaps better to move to the US if there are other things that you like about the US! I don't think that the economic reason itself should be enough.
I have a feeling that this year almost everyone, if not everybody, will get to the interview. I really do wish you all good luck, you deserve it!
