April 2002 (!) Case Approved

At long last I got my approval e-mail last night (at 10 PM). My wife's case is still pending. My case was stuck for an extended period of time due to pending "security checks" according to my Senator's office. I'm guessing that this was a namecheck (I had sent the FBI an e-mail in Dec, no response yet). I had had my Senator's and Congressman's office contact the USCIS regularly (indeed thrice in the last 6 months). I think they did help, the first time they contacted the USCIS, I got my 3rd FP notice. The last time (which was about 10 days ago), I had them all contact the USCIS simultaneously. I don't think this mattered at all, but who knows. Thankfully I did not receive an RFE - that would have only prolonged the agony. I'm surprised that i wasn't RFE'd since my medicals were incomplete - I did not have one of the vaccinations done since there was a national shortage at that time. That's my story.

Here's hoping that everyone of you especially the 2002 folks sees the end of the tunnel soon.

question

Congratulations!

I have just contacted the senator's office, and was told that my case was assigned to an officer 10 days ago. What does it mean? Does it mean my name check or FBI check, whatever they are, have been completed? Thanks!

Thanks guys!

lulx-co, typically an officer wouldn't 'touch' your case until the namecheck is complete - though this is by no means a rule (I have known stray instances in which an RFE has been issued before the namecheck has been cleared, but I think this is not all that common). So, my guess is that you should hear something fairly soon (either an RFE or better yet!). My advice is to mercilessly pursue the senator or congressman's office and have them contact Nebraska. That's pretty much our only way to get through to Nebraska.

Good luck.

Congrats! BTW my case was 'touched' before my name check was cleared. In fact USCIS requested FBI for a name check clearance after they received my RFE response. But I suspect this was a second request since my wife clearance came thru in Dec 02.

Thanks Frodo. I don't think it is very common for one to receive an RFE before the namecheck is cleared - though as your case suggests, it certainly happens.

I'd really doubt that the NSC would issue a second request to the FBI to get the namecheck cleared. I had my congressman's office contact NSC to see if they could send another request to the FBI - but they simply wouldn't. I also wrote a couple of letters - one to the NSC and another to the FBI requesting that they expedite my namecheck - though I don't know if they even entartain such requests. I hope these bozos get their act together and get your case through soon. Good luck!

Kamil/Frodo-

Is there a way to know if my "name check" is complete or yet to be done or in the process ....? Is contacting the congressmen the only way to find this out? My response to RFE was received my NSC on Feb5th and looking at other folks, I am not very off on my turn. But just want to know is this something new I need to worry about or was this included in the price I already paid for .....

My understanding is that there are 2 ways in which to check the status of your namecheck - through a congressman or to directly contact the FBI (via e-mail). If you haven't done the latter already, it could take a while. In my case, I had contacted the NSC ever so often that they eventually sent me a letter stating that my case has been selected for "detailed review". This was simply their way of letting me know that my case was stuck in the namecheck process and that I shouldn't be bothering them.

My guess is that you will hear something soon. Good luck.
