Approx. total cost of PR process?

I'm seriously considering applying for PR but I'd like to know what cost's I can expect?

workpermit.com seem to want about $3000 US to do the whole thing...

CIC website says the fee for me as a Skilled Worker is something like $500...

Is getting a lawyer really necessary etc?

if the qualifying conditions for permanant residency are met
and the necessary evidence is available for each and every
condition,then lawyers help in interpretation may not be necessary
otherwise it may be a good idea to engage a lawyer
