Hello everybody!!!
I got approved for asylum through Immigration Court exactly a week ago.
There are no words to describe how I felt and still feel. I learned the true meaning of happy tears :)
Question: what will happen now? My lawyer told me that I have to go to Federal Plaza and get a new I-94 or something. What is that mean? I know I can ask him but I would prefer your own experience.
Responses will be much appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Congrats!

Your lawyer is right. do the following

1.You will get a new i-94 stamped with 'Asylum Granted Indefinitely'. For this you have to go to the nearest USCIS local office.
2. With the new i-94, apply for new SSN at nearest social security administration local office.
3. With the new SSN and I-94, you can get 5 yr state driver licence
4. After one year, you can apply for Adjustment of Status.

Enjoy!!

Thank you for your reply :)
Do you by any chance know if there is a fee to pay for a new I-94 in NY???

You shouldn't be paying a penny. i-94 and SSN is free for Asylee. Should be the same in NY too.

iam very happy for you, iam myself got approved by the immigration court

try to get a copy of the decision from your lawyer and save it for record

Thank you and congratulations to you too. :)
I got the original, my lawyer took a copy.

The I-94 is free. It will say "Asylum Granted by IJ on (date)." However, it does take 3-4 months before the USCIS gets the paperwork from Immigration Court after the asylum is final.

you dont need i-94 as proof of ur asylee status cos you have the approval letter from iJ as asylum document.

I'm getting mine tomorrow, because I have the original court decision (not to mention that both parties agreed on that decision) so there will be no appeals :)

Yes but I do not want to carry the papers around when I will be renewing my SS card :) which I need to do since I do not need employment authorization no more :) (God, it feels good to say that)
