I have question, When i go for passport stamping.. I cant find my passport... and the I-94 I got when i arrived.. I dont know where is that either... I have the I-94 for the asylum approval... So will they ask me the older I-94 also ? and Plus would they ask me why I didnt make a police report regarding lost passport. The passport was valid till 2006. So wouldnt have expired either. And Should I take two IDs with me ?

Thankyou.

You dont need to bring your national passport. Just bring 3 photos with you and they would affix your 3rd photo on a white card which would have permanent resident stamp on it. If they ask about passport, just tell them that you do not use it any more.

Congratulations and thank you for posting your dates. Gives all hope that things are moving..

You can bring the latest I-94, which you have. Don't worry about your national passport so much. They will give you I-94 like document on which they will attach one of the photos you will bring. This will be the AOS proof until the GC arrives.

I got mine in the mail three months after the stamping. Enjoy your success...

:)

Congratulations my friend ,please tel us the exact ND date.it's good to hear approval once in a while.

Wow congratulations: you need to bring the following: 3 pictures and the letter of approval and DO NOT BRING YOUR NATIONAL PASSPORT. They will never ask you for it ok? Also, do not let them stamp your RTD because it will expire sooner than your temporary evidence of green card. They will give you a form I-551 that says that it is a temporary evidence of your permenant residence. Getting your plastic card will depend on your luck. Someone, like me, got it in 3months but they messed up and did not backdate it so i had to wait another 3 months. I know others who waited a year. Good luck my friend and congrats again

GC Backdated?

shamshon: what do you mean by "they didn't backdate it"? When you actually get the plastic, what date should they be putting on it?

Thanks,
L.

Let me give you an example. If you are approved today, february 11 2004, your green card will say that you got the green card a year earlier (February 11 2003). Hence, green card is backdated one year for asylees. This means that you will have to wait 4 and not 5 years to apply for your citizenship. Why?
You waited a whole year after your asylum approval to apply for a green card and i think they want to compensate you for that. I am not sure if this is the perfect explanation for the backdating. All asylees once getting a green card, theirs are backdated. Good luck

I think this is a very good explanation. They (Congress) wanted to count the asylum period for citizenship purposes. The intent was that you could apply for citizenship five years after getting an asylum grant. They did not imagine that so many many (20 K+ a year) people would be granted asylum resulting such a huge backlog.
