1. How can I check the case status (I-485) ?
[All these days I was just relying on my lawyer to get the status]

2. What is LUD?

1. Go to https://egov.immigration.gov/cris/jsps/index.jsp where you can enter your case receipt number, or setup an account and be emailed status updates on your case when they occur.

2. Last Updated Date. Indicates the date the USCIS did something on your case. Sometimes it's something real and obvious (like the day they approve your case, or send an RFE), other times it's just some mysterious internal processing, like security checks.

my case details:

EB1-OR, semi-concurrent, company (<20 total employees) sponsored
Started the whole process at the beginning of 2002
Prepared all documents myself, lawyer drafted the cover letter
I-140 approved on Jan 15, 2003, no RFE
I-485 applied on Jan 15, 2003
I-485 RFE for me only for legal status, EVL, 2 years W2s, 3 paystubs
both my wife and I were approved on 9/27/2004, exact 2 weeks after RFE was received by CSC.
