I have been waiting for my greencard approval for a very long time. When i checked my case status online today i found the following notice:

"On December 14, 2006, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I485 APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS. Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service"

Can someone please tell me what this notice means? Does this mean i get my greencard (without an interview)? Or do i still need to do a greencard interview?

Also, the weird thing is that my spousse case status is still on pending for approval, while i am the primary applicant. What does this mean? Will he automatically get his greencard too or does he still need to do an interview?

Unlikely, but not impossible

Hi,

It is unlikely that your greencard will be approved without an interview, but not impossible. You will be one of the few people who obtain their greencard without an interview. Other alternative, it could be a mistake from USCIS system on your online portfolio.

Wait for a greencard to be mailed to you, until them, you should view any such communication from USCIS with suspicion..

Your spouse will be approved too, as soon as USCIS ensure that he meet all requirements by USCIS...

Interview requirement is waived for some categories

Hi lilychan
Congratulations. For some categories, interview requirement is waived (e.g EB1). Under which category you filed your I-140?

I don't want to be happy to fast, because i am not sure whether i get it without interview. I do know that the cutoff date has been overdue a long time for my case, like more than 1 year, so hopefully they thought they would give it to me because my case was laying around so long. Anyway , i just need to wait and see. The letter should arrive any time this week, so nervous.....

I fall under the category EB-3, do they waive interviews for this category? And how do u know this?

The interview process is not always mandatory. I work for a big financial company and none of our company employees who got green card went for interview. They get green card approval directly. Though I am not sure what is the criteria for this interview requirement or approval without interview.

Hello lilychan, Recently I have noticed many other cases similar to yours geting the same kind of message as yours from CRIS about the mailing of approval notice. Please do let us know once you receive the notice as to what it actualy mentions. Also, did u tried calling USCIS and asking them as to what is this all about??

I gave up calling them, because when i last tried to call them i had to wait on the phone for more than 4 hours and didn't even get someone on the phone. They say waiting time is 10 min, no no....i had to wait all afternoon and still no one on the line. I gave up in the end, how do they expect me to hang around the phone all day!
I need to keep my eye on the post, i will post the results once i get the letter.

Congratulations!!

You won't need an interview.

I had EB-3 too. Got the same message Dec 05.
Dec 12 I was holding the plastic card in my hand :)

Interview is for those categories that may have issues, for example, EB-2 without Master's degree.

Hello InThePit, Congrats on getting your GC. BTW - so you got exactly the same message as lilychan did - and got the GC next week? Is that correct?? What happened to the approval notice - did INS sent you one like specified in the message? Or instead of approval they sent you the GC directly?

Yes, InThePit I want to know this too. Hope u can answer above post. And CONGRATS with ur greencard!!

Thanks :)

In fact, I received both the plastic card and the I-485 approval notice in my mail on the same day, Dec 12th.
That is the best Christmas present i could ever expect :)

Finally got the letter in the mail. The letter said the following:

"The above application (I-485) has been approved. Pior to receive your permanent resident card you may be required to report for biometrics processing (photo/fingerprint/signature). Please do not take any action at this time. If you are required to report for this processing, you will receive another notice advising you of the dat, time and location to appear.

If you have not received your permanent resident card or the above mentioned notice to appear for biometrics processing within 90 days, please call this office at the number listed below."

The letter was dated December 14, so it did took a long time to actually get it and read it. So happy to hear that i will get the greencard without having to do an interview :). Now just waiting anxiously for the actaul plastic card!

Exactly same as mine

Hi lilychan,
You got the exact same message on approve notice as mine.
Mine is approved on 12/19/06 and it is mailed to me on 12/26/06.
I got biometrics on 12/5/06. What's your current status? Is card ordered?
I am worried because lots of people in this forum got plastic card in a week after I485 is approved. By the way, are we permanent resident now?

If there is anybody who got similar experience before, please tell me how long it take to get plastic card after I485 approved.
