Approved, a sad story!

Thank you for all your congrats and encouragement. I just took a day off and want to start my job searching tomorrow.

Do you have any idea if I can collect unemployment benefits if I have received my plastic card?

Also, will my GC be revoked if I was laid off?
Thanks in advance.

I have a dream.

ONE DAY
No one will suffer from this grilling GC process and live in this country freely and happily.
No one will be exploited by his or her boss and sponsor company when they apply for GC.
INS staff will actually care about every GC seeker as their friends, neighbours and relatives.

Wish you all the best.

FREEDOM!

Any one can answer my questions?

This is a very sensitive topic.. I personally would advise against going for unemployment immediately after GC. I did read (about 3/4 months back, when the forum had the older format) someone getting their GC revoked as they had sought unemp benefits immediately.. their friend had posted the story on the old "I-485 Vermont Service Center" thread - you still might be able to find it.

Look up on www.murthy.com on the chat sessions. You might find something there.. you do have the time - given your (unfortunate) laid-off status, do your homework.

Please do not, Do Not, DO NOT jeopardise your GC status. You have come very far - 8-10 K debt on credit cards is better than going the unemp route

Regarding will GC be revoked if laid off - you should be o.k. if you look for something and find it soon (3/4 months). INS doesn't go back and track what happend post GC. I have read in forums that it might come up when you apply for citizenship but you are far far from there.. you should be fine

Another alternmative is to go to school and if you are ever asked later as to why you didn't/couldnt stay, you can point to how you spent years doing the same thing (pre-GC) and wanted to advance your career.

However applying for unemployment definitely gets people looking at your file again.. so I would steer clear

just my 2 cents (or as someone said "3 cents post inflation")

GC_Paranoid - I agree with lamborghini

I agree with lamborghini, even I remember some one's file got
re-opened when he/she applied for un-employement benefits
immediately after getting GC in hand. On the other hand, there
could be other factors like the unemployement rate of the state
in which you are living etc, which could contribute in opening
the file again if applied for un-employement benefits.

You suffered so long, why do you want to put the entire
pain at stake for just $300 per week?

Again, it is easy to give suggestions but it is upto you to
decide.

Take care. God bless.

Thank you for all the advices and congrats

Thank you for your kind words. lamborghini, Peter and others, thanks for your replies regarding the unemployment thing. I will stay away from those few hunderd bucks per week and try to find a job ASAP.

When I go stamping, will the officers check my EAD and AP? I have a different number on my EAD and AP than the one on my receipt notice and possibly approval notice, will that cause a problem?
What should I do?

Thanks in advance
