Appointment to a Local Office via Info-Pass

A relative of mine, whose ND is November 2000 has not been approved yet.
He has called NSC through 1-800 number but explanations vary depending on operator he talks to. Bottom line is that he has not been able to find out about the cause of not being approved yet.

This week, he made an appointment to a local USCIS office via InfoPass to meet with an immigration officer early next week. Could someone who has gone through this experience tell me if such appointments are productive, if at all?

Will the immigration officer be able to tell him the reason that is taking so long for his approval?

Any information about such cases is highly appreciated.

It is useless. I can tell you what he will be told: "your case is in security check, once it is OK, we will process his case at once."

The problem is that my relative is given no information about the status other than what he gets when he checks the staus on line. At least, do you think he will be told that "his security check is pending" if that's the case?

You know all he wants is a piece of mind...if there is the name check issues...so be it. There is nothing wrong with it. He can wait for as long as is needed and he is not worried about it. What's he is worried about is just the lack of information in light of recent change to the processind date (February 1, 2001) which is past due his ND.

Ask a laywer to write a letter to INS, INS will answer the laywer, otherwize, just wait like I.

My ND is Jan 2001 and USCIS working on Feb-2002 cases. But i didn't get any updated seince they recived my RFE(Waiver-602). I did my BIO code 1 on Jan 7 2006. But no decision yet--
Any one have Idea why they taking long time?

Don't give them excuses. It is their job to perform the name check expeditiously. Your name is George Bush or Osama Bin Laden should not make a difference, so does if your name is ultra short.

In private industry, for example, like my company, we have a policy of name check for private-banking customers, because it probably involves quite a few bucks. The policy also says a decision should be made about account opening within 1 week for those accounts. We hire contractors to do the background check. So what if contractor told you they have a lot of "hits" for the name (or similar names)? Just work harder to keep pushing them, to hire another contractor or whatever to get the result on time. IT IS NOT CUSTOMER'S FAULT IF THEY CALL THEMSELVES "OSAMA". Period.

I would write them a nice letter mentioning a good possibility of a legal action against them if there's no progress on the case within a month. And please, do not mess with the Infopass or 1-800-absolutelynouse number - it's a waste of your precious time.
