Applying through Marriage question

I am getting married to my fiancee, and we plan to do the paperwork necessary for him to get his Green Card.

The lawyer asked for the last 3 years of my Income tax
returns.
My question is.... what is that for?
Do I need a certain income to support him?

He already lives in the US.

My income alone is not enough to support both of us.

How long does this process last?

He applied for 245i and that was still on process for 2 years.

When do we get the first interview?

We live in the state of NJ.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

And my heart goes out to anyone going through this long
citizenship process.
I have seen through him how hard and frustrating it is to
sit and wait.

I suffered along beside him.

Good luck to everyone!

I think you need to have income above the poverty level, so that your Fiancee/spouse doesnt become a liability to the Govt. It need not necessarily be enough to support 2 persons in real terms. It just needs to be above the poverty level. Also, talk to your lawyer and see if you can show your fiancee's income also as evidence of financial responsibility.
