Applying Reentry Permit - Need Advice

Hello All,
There are many threads relating to RP but I need RP info for my situation.

I am trying hard to keep up my marriage, but if situations are out of my control I want to proceed applying divorce and I want to start that process in India (I know it is time taking and painful process, I want my wife to have support from her family in this process). No kids yet, we both have green card and employed. Please advise me on following questions.

1) What is the typical duration to get RP (i-131?) -- three months?
2) Can I apply RP and leave US? So that someone (friends) will mail my documents to India or I have to wait for RP approval to come in and then leave US?
3) What if have approval for RP and never use them? (Will that affect N400 in any way?)
4) How much it will cost per applicant? ( $305/$385? Guess, I can apply myself, instead of going to attorney)

2) You can leave after the biometrics appointment and have someone send you the RP, or have it sent to a consulate/embassy overseas (if approved)
