Applying for US citizenship- which date to use

Lets say I got my electronic notification on June 10th 2005 that when I got my I-485 is approval notification via email but on my actual green card Resident since June 5th 2005.

Lets say person never left USA since getting the GC.

One can apply 90 days before 5 year mark. I got the advice here on the forum that one should wait for about a week from this 90 count down period so there is no confusion left.

So in the above mentioned example

that person could have applied for citizenship on March 15th (if counting electronic notification which is June 10th 2005 ) or March 10th (if counting actual date on GC which is June 5th 2005).

Any suggestions.
 
Personally, I would use the later date. No sense in even risking the possibility of rejection for the sake of 5 days.

Having said that, if those are your actual dates, you are already past the 5 year mark:)
 
Thanks for your quick reply. No these are not actual dates just hypo case.

There is another question which is on form N400 - Part 3 -c . Which asks when did you become permanent resident?
USCIS also asks copy of actual green card.
 
The date on your GC is the correct date, not your notificaton date. Such approval notifications always come few days later than actual date.

So, you should always use the date that's in your GC for calculation.

I wouldn't say "always". Sometimes the date on the GC is just plain wrong. For example, some people get a GC with a date that is earlier than their family-based interview. Or even before the I-485 application date. In such cases, the Resident Since date cannot be correct; they have to look at other documents like the approval notice and recall the sequence of events during the process to figure out (or at least estimate) the true date.
 
true. My daughters green card has June 11th 2005, but her interview and approval was actually July 11th 2005
