Applying for unemployment after end of contract

Hi all,

I know questions about unemployment have been asked many times but I couldn't find the specific info I needed. Here is my situation.

I got my GC in Nov 08. I'm still working for the company that sponsored my H-1. I contract through the company but the arrangement is that I only get paid while I'm on a project and there are no employee benefits other than medical insurance.

With the market being as bad as it is now, I'm not sure how quickly I'll get another project after my current one ends at the end of this month.

So, can I file for unemployment benefits? Will an end of a contract be considered a termination? Once I get my next project I'll probably work through my company again. Will this be an issue?

thanks in advance.
