Applying for SSN

Hello All,
My wife and I have received I I-765 EAD approval notice. I have received my EAD card, but my wife hasn't, yet.
Is it possible to use 765 notice to get a SSN? Or do I neccessarily need to either wait for card or get an interim EAD to acquire a SSN?

Any help is appriciated.
Thanks in advance,

if your 765 has been approved:
- they may not issue an interim EAD at all
- or they may charge a fresh application fee (~$100 or so) and issue iEAD

which of these, it depends on the center, and probably the officer..

you dont need GC for getting SSN. If you have EAD then you can apply for SSN. But EAD card is required to apply for SSN. My wife recently got SSN using EAD.

if you have an EAD then all you need to do is go to the nearest social security office and apply for ssn. You need to show them your EAD and they will then send the SSN to you in mail (approx 1 week )

Applying for an SSN has nothing to do with your H1 status or their H-4 status.

Hello Unclocked;

Can you tell me how many days it took for the EAD card to arrive in the mail from the date of approval?

Thanks

It took one week. My wife's card hasn't arrived yet, though.
