Applying for new re-entry permit

My wife and I obtained our GCs 5 years back. However, my wife and I have been staying outside the US since Jan 2008 due to personal reasons. Our re-entry permits expire in June 2010.

We're planning to visit the US next month (have been visiting every 180 days to retain eligibility for citizenship). I'm planning to look for job in the US and move permanently in March if I don't find something during this visit. However my wife won't be able to move back to the US until August 2010 (she won't be able to make any trips in between as well). In that case:
1. She would have been out of the country for more than six months since her last visit and
2. Her re-entry permit would have expired.

Can you please help me with the following
1. Can she apply for the re-entry permit renewal next month (the current one expires in june 2010)
2. Will she have issues re-entering next August if she is unable to apply for a new re-entry permit (I would have moved back to the US by then)
3. Can she apply for a returning resident visa - what is the process for it
4. Any other options to facilitate a problem free return?

Thanks.

She's pregnant (due in May). We are exploring the possibility for her to travel during pregnancy but want to consider other options.

Would appreciate your suggestions regarding other options.

You should be aware that when you take a long series of multiple trips with short stays in the US in between, your citizenship may be denied even though each individual trip was under 180 days.

Also be aware that if she gives birth outside the US, the baby must accompany her on her first trip back to the US since the birth for the baby to qualify for immediate permanent resident status upon entry.

Technically a reentry permit is not required for trips under 1 year. So if she is in the US next month and returns to the US before October next year, they should allow her to enter without a reentry permit (assuming her GC has not expired, of course), although having the permit may make things smoother.
