I want to know if I can just take his H1 approval along with my marriage certificate and apply at the border on my way back from Canada? It looks like it costs $300 to do it in the US and $0 if I do it in Canada...

i am at the same situation too. may I drive to the borders to apply for an H4 for my wife and daughter. I've just received my H1 approval and they were with me on a TD visa as I was on TN visa.
Please advise. I do not have to file out the I-539 and pay 300 $?

My wife got the visa at the border. But then I went to TX DMV for her state Id, they said that she cannot get a state id because she needs a stamp on her passport. They cannot give it only on an I-94
