applying for H1

Hi,

I graduated with a masters degree in DEC 2008 and currently I am on OPT. I recently got a full time job in a medical device company and I started working this week. When talked to my employer about my H1, I was told that company cannot apply through their attorney. They wanted to apply the H1 on my own but they are willing to give all the required documents. Currently, I am trying to apply H1 on my own. My questions in that process are, 1) Do you think is it really possible to apply on my own? 2) Do I need an attorney if I have to apply H1 on my own? 3) How much it costs me to apply for H1 (visa fee+attorney fee)? 4) what are the required documents? 5) Will there be any immigrational issues if I apply it on my own?

I appreciate all your help!

I suggest you apply through attorney. Generally the fee will be between $500 to $1000 (varies from attorney to attorney).

Your employer must file. I do not understand his reluctance. There are fees that he must - by law - pay.

You cannot file for yourself. Look at the USCIS website for the fees that you are permitted to reimburse the employer for.
