Applying for Citizenship - Married for 2 years

Hello,

I have been married with a US citizen for 2 years and 5 months but i don't have a green card yet because of some sponsor issues. My question is, if i get my green card within 1 year, is it possible to apply for citizenship (since i will be married for 3 years already)? Or do i have to wait 3 years as a green card holder?
