We got our green cards in 2012, when our daughter was 10 years old. She is now 18, and she was thinking of applying for her citizenship, but we just happened to come across a page on the USCIS website that talks about when a green card needs to be replaced. That page states that "you must replace your Green Card if you received your card before you were 14 and you have reached your 14th birthday (unless your card expires before your 16th birthday)".
We were not aware of this requirement, and so our daughter still has the original green card issued in 2012. I am assuming that card is still valid because she has used it without any issues for reentering the US several times since she turned 14. So my question is that can she apply for citizenship on the basis of this card (she satisfies all criteria for applying for citizenship), or does her green card first needs to be renewed and then only after that card arrives, can she then apply for citizenship?
Thanks!
