Applying for AP Question

Hello,

My law firm is charging $305 for applying for AP.

Should I apply thru the lawfirm or can I do it on my own?

If on my own, what is the procedure?

u can do it urself. Docs to send

1) I-131
2) 485 copy
3) previous AP copy if any
4) 2 photos
5) check for 110$ (it changes after Apr 30th)

Search this forum for the address to send since for some reason AP mailing address is left out in USCIS site
 
AP application is easy and you don't need to spend $305 for that.

In hard way I learned that it's better to provide them EVERY POSSIBLE docs that you think they CAN ask for. Last year when I applied for my wife they generated RFE for MY I40 approval (I have provided my GC copy with application, why do they need my I140 approval notice for my wife's AP application?).

Anyway, this year I decided to not to be logical. I provided following documents an this she got approval within two weeks.
This year I provided following docs:

1. I131 application form
2. a letter specifying why you need AP (just specify that you are planning to travel this year).
3. check for application ($110)
4. copy of passport
5. copy of I94 (both sides)
6. 2 ADIT style photos
7. copy of previous AP (if any)
8. I485 application receipt
9. I140 approval (or application) receipt
10. copy of marriage ceritificate
11. copy of my green card.
12. copy of my I-485 approval
13. copy of my passport

You don't need items # 10, 11, 12, 13 if you are primary applicant.

I sent to application to same post box for I485 application (PO box 10485) - specifying "Application for I-131 (Advance Parole)" on envelope. Last year when called USCIS, they asked me to send to this post box. But I saw in this forum people sent to other general post box and got approved.
 
Would the previous AP do as an "official photo identity document"?
Or I should send something else for this purpose?

1. It proves that you already have one and you deserve another new AP (not an illegal immigrant asking for reentry permit).

2. It also shows that your current AP is about to expire - hence provides the validity of your application.
 
My question was not about why I should send a copy of previous AP. My question is about what I should send as an "official photo identity document" which is required now.
I need to file for a new AP for my child. Since children don't have many documents I have the question what people send as this "official photo identity document".

The copy of his/her passport (item #4 in my list) is good enough (provided it has a photo in it). That's the only photo ID they need. In general USCIS does not ask for "official" photo id for any kind of application - AP, EAD, I485 etc. And that applies for adults too.

They require it for I-131 now

Instructions in I-131 form tells about this clearly.

Yes, it does. I'm sorry that I didn't mention the reason why I'm seeking a document different from passport to send.
The thing is that our passports have our names in French spelling while BCIS "knows" our names in English spelling. And I have concerns how it could affect AP approval if they see on an "official photo identity doc" similar but still different name.
