My wife received her EAD card in the mail last Saturday. We applied for her SSN on Monday afternoon. She was asked to provide her passport as a form of govt issued photo id and ofcourse EAD card. They never asked for her birth certificate and I-485 receipt. We were asked to come back after 48 hrs so we went back on Wednesday and got her SSN. We were told that the actual card will come in the mail in 10 days.

I didnt realise you could find out the number within 48 hours,
i thought you had to wait until you recieved the card. Thats cool.
Yea maybe its different at each local office, ill just take it all that
way i cant go wrong.

Thanks guys for your input!

Bumblebee, work life is great! I like to work freelance (fewer hours and a lot more pay than staff jobs) and I've scored five assignments this past two weeks. One is a six-month, two-stories-each-month gig... so it's looking good! It definitely helped making contacts while I was waiting for the EAD. I read you just received your EAD... what's the action plan for your job search? Sometimes I think I have an advantage because I generally work on short-term projects, employers don't have to take the risk that I won't get my GC eventually... are you going to mention that you're AOS pending when you apply for jobs? Or are you just going to say "legally authorized to work?" (that's what I'd do... don't let them think there's any "iffiness!" :))

Social Security Card

Received Social Security Card in the mail today. We applied for the card on Monday. Received the SSN on Wednesday & got the card today.

When can an AOS minor apply for a SS card since she is too young to apply for an EAD? Does she have to wait till the final interview is done?
