I was in the US for almost 6 years on 2 different i-20's (one for my BS and one for my PhD) until I came back in June 2009. I never overstayed or broke any laws.
I was unintentionally involved in producing political pamphlets and was in jail for 3 months.
This fall I plan to go back to the US should I get a visa to complete my studies. I also plan to apply for a
asylum since I feel really unsafe and dangerous to live in this country which is among the 2nd or 3rd worst dictatorship country after N Korea.
How much should I pay for a lawyer fee if I choose to hire one? I can provide proof of my jail term but would that be enough? Can you guess my chances of success?
Thanks for your ideas.

Now I get my student visa and I plan to apply for a refugee once I arrive in the US again. What other documents do I need to bring to confirm my credentials? Any reply will be welcome and appreciated very much.

bring your birth certificate, ur high school certificate, and dont forget to get translated in english with legal translator
u cant apply for refugee status once ur inside US, refugee status is only if ur outside US, inside US is called asylee

it looks like you have strong case so I would suggest that you should go to EU and ask for asylum there -it goes much faster and when accepted for asylum you will get citizenship 3X FASTER THEN in USA ....so please do not waste your time with US asylum system ...LIFE IS TOO SHORT

Dear cieru,
I got confused between refugee and asylum. I guess I will have to apply for an asylum as I will be in the US on a student visa. I will try to apply within a year of arrival.
Dear bmx88,
It's very hard to get a EU visa from my country and I do not have sponsorship. The reason I am going to the US is I receive full financial aid from school.

Btw, which website would you recommend for finding a good immigration lawyer for asylum in the US?
Thank you very much to both of you and anyone who may have any ideas.

Dear cieru,
Thanks for your reply once again.
Do you or anyone know how much are the lawyer's fees as I will be hiring one? Could you please recommend one in the Philadelphia area?
Thanks in advance..

I heard that if I apply for an asylum while on F1 and fail, I can get deported. Is that true? If that is the case, I can even get re-arrested (if I get deported) at the airport back in my country.
I have always thought that I can continue to stay on F1 even if my asylum application is not successful. Can someone clarify this? Thanks.

If you submit an asylum application and the A.O. denies it, he is going to place you in deportation, and you will get a second chance to proof your case with an I.J. for my it was better to go with a I.J. but even if you got denied with I,J. you can always appeal the result. this means that even if you dont get approved your case in the first interview eith A.O. you still have to more chances, just get a lawyer.

Request for Assistance to seek asylum.

Dear Ladies and gentlemen,

With reference to the above mentioned subject, I would like to draw your maximum attention.

I am a male Angolan citizen residing in Angola aged 36 single never married before and no children yet.

I write to you in order to seek assistance by helping me to seek asylum in one of the countries listed below basing on the truth and fact that my life is threatened and at stake I am facing political problems arising from opposition political parties and ruling party MPLA including President Jose Eduardo dos Santos reasoning based on having recommended the United States Federal Government during the Bush administration to infringe during the election campaign in order to avoid the resumption of war in Angola which they did by sending officers from USA during the campaign toll in Angola fiscal year FY 2008.

This I also did to Former Republican President George Walker Bush during his re-election in 2004 where he almost lost to Democrat Senate John Kerry because of blurted accusations that people piled on him based on Iraq war, that "He made war in Iraq" but I worked hard and made him win the elections prior to convincing the people with true reasons that I provided to the United States Army as an authority there. President George Walker Bush is aware of this fact.

In connection with the same, I was held prison at the Angola’s presidential palace in 2001 in a heavy prison by the leaders of the Government. President Jose Eduardo dos Santos and his sister Mrs. Marta dos Santos are aware of this fact issue. This is another contributing factor causing me to risk my life meaning that I do not have the-real-peace which others do. My movements are restricted and I am that kind of CIA or Secret Forces to them. They think I can put the whole nation on fire. If this is true then it is better for me to be the President of Angola with effect from now. Either I seek asylum or I become President of Angola.

To this end, I am requesting your good offices to help me seek refugee, or and asylum in one of the countries United Sates, Australia or Canada basing on these facts.

I am a professional Teacher of High School English and Religious Education, University Mechanical Engineer Student, Trained Christian Pastor, a controllable persona, military minded, trusted, intellectual and inspiring sensitive person who can run for Presidential nominee in the United States of America or any other country.

Kindly, find attached a scanned photo of my Angolan passport, Identification Card, and other personal photos.

You can contact me on the following cell phone number: +244937705925 or and email me.

Your positive assistance in responding to my request will be highly appreciated.

Yours Faithfully,

João Chitali.(Cassidy)

Luanda, Angola.
