Applying EAD by self.

I have applied my I-485 through my company. Is it Okay to apply for EAD by myself without contacting company.
Does any one did this?. My company doesn\'t want to apply because I have still valid H1.
Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

You can apply for EAD without the permission of your company once you filed your I-485. I did it for me and my wife and even got them extended after an year. Very easy to do. Print the form from this site and follow the instructions that come with it.

I mailed for my wife EAD extension on 01/07/01 and received the card in less than two months. For first timers it may take close to 80 days.

Make sure you take good pictures that follow INS rules. You can find the format of pictures on this site at http://www.immigration.com/photograph.html
