applying and leaving the US

I heard that the application fee will double starting August 2007, is that correct? I decided thus to apply for citizenship now, but I'm leaving the country for 2 months. Can I leave the US after I send the application?

Thanks for your help.

Not a wise thing to do because there is a very good chance you will receive a fingerprint appointment with a "few weeks" (can be as little as one week) of submitting your application. You CAN miss it and either do a reshedule or a walk-in if your trip is unavoidable. Otherwise, pay the new fee and submit when you return.

Or you can prepare your application and sign it with a date in late july and have a friend drop it in the mail at the end of July....That way you can pay the current fee and still be back in time for your FP, etc. (assuming you'll be back by early august)

The fees for N-400 application is going to become $675.00. Currently it is $400.00. Even though it is going to go up by $275.00 it is not doubling.

Follow 1caliN400 advice. Make sure that you name shows up on your mailbox. And also make sure that you have someone check your mail regularly instead of holding it at the Post Office.

Right now the fee is $390, and starting JULY 31 it will be $675. If you file now, you will get fingerprint notice within a month, so what you will do? and how long you will be absent? Keep these things in mind and act accordingly. You can mail the application from anywhere in the world to USCIS.
