I applied my 485 in Oct, 2002. Due to this process I've practically put my life on hold. My case status hasnt changed since then.

I'm planning to get married to a girl who's studying on F-1 visa. The question is when should I file for her 485. Please write your comments.

Cheers!

I am in the same situation and I applied for my spouse. You should apply as soon as possible as this way she will apply for her I485 and it will be processed according to her application date. Once approved and you are in a green card status it will take her 5 odd years to get approved as then she will fall int he family category and they go by longer priority dates. This is the advice I was given.

curryus,
Your case can be approved anytime. Before your case gets processed you should receive a receipt notice for your wifes I-485 application. So decide fast.

Dont worry about the case status not changing. Mine is a Nov/2002 case and did not change even once for the past 20 months, until last week.

Get married ASAP. If your GC is approved BEFORE you file your wife's 485, then you're SOL. It'll take 5+ years for your wife to get GC, and in the meantime she'll have to maintain status in the US (F1, H1) etc, or go back to her coutry. With October 2002 as your ND, your case could be approved any time, so hurry up.
