Hi guys

I submitted my application for SSC one month ago after I got my EAD. Refer to the introduction of SSC application, I should receive my SSC in two weeks. But the officer told me that they would contact INS to check my background, then they decided to approve my application or not.

I just called the Social Security local office today. The officer told me that they were still waiting for the reply from INS, and it would be spent 12 to 14 weeks to get my SSC.

Anybody has the same experience? I don't know when that new
rule was effective. Can I call INS to check the status?

Thanks!

The wait rule is an old one...

If you apply for SSN within weeks of entering US you will be issued aSSN within weeks. Otherwise the standard wait was 2 months. With the new security check this might take more time. Unfortuantely you cannot check this case's progress from INS.

you should go again to the Social Security Office and show you EAD card and ask for a SSN card. you should receive your card within two weeks.
I don't think that the Social Security Office has any legal right to deny you your SSN card when you show them the EAD card. But some people just like to make life more difficult for immigrants.

My wife also had trouble at when she applied for a new SSN card that allowed her to work, as she only had a interim EAD card valid for three months. The Social Security clerk called INS and the INS officer was rude and did not give a good answer to anything, but my wife was persistent and finally the Social Security clerk agreed to give her the new SSN card, but threathened that if she did not within three months come back and show a new EAD card, they would revoce the SSN card automatically.

You need to go to the Social Security Office again, and don't give up. Tell them that you need to go to work.
