apply greencard from J1

My husband is J1 holder, I am J2. We are from China and have gotten J1 waiver.Shall we transfer to H1 and apply for greencard or just apply from J1 visa? What's the difference? If I become H4, can I transfer to H1 when I found a job? Thanks

It depends on the category you are going to apply and the time left on the J beside other factors:
1- if the time left for J is short (few months), go with H first
2- If your husband qualify for EB1 green card (the only category with current priority date for chinees), go direct to GC and both of you apply for EAD to work with till approval of GC
3- You can switch from H4 to H1 if you find an employer who agree to sponsor you.
