Apply for US passport at a different location

hey,

can some one help me with my situation. I have a US citizenship and would like to apply for my sons visa...i moved back to India. The american counslate in Chennai said that i should be in US with my son atleast for a day.

My doubt is can i apply for his passport any where in US r should i apply for it only in Chicago(Thats where my proof of address is). am planning to visit my sis in NJ and would like to apply for his passport and Indian visa there...

You could apply at any of the passport centers or post offices in the US.
