Apply for PR while out of status in US

I have a friend who is out of status in US and wish to apply for Canadian Perm Residence in Buffalo. Is there anyone who had done this recently? please share your experience.

During application they will ask status in US and current employment situation. Also during the middle of the application before medical test, they will again ask for employment proof like paystubs/ W2. What will the friend do then?
