My current EAD is valid till Dec 1, 2007. Can I apply for a renewal now or does it have to be no earlier than 90 days. Applying now can save me some money as the fee is increasing on July 30th.

90 days? You must be kidding. There are so many people on the boards who applied 90 days in advance and still waiting for their EAD renewal to come thru. For some people 4 months have passed and they are still waiting. People are forced to quit their jobs or forego on a job offer and in some cases forced to take unpaid leave becasue their renewal didn't come thru in time. If you are working on EAD (and it is essential to you) then just forget about the money, go run and apply for EAD. (Well there is no real necessity to run but I was just trying to make a point :)) I heard (didnt crosscheck) that now USCIS suggests to apply 6 months in advance on their web site (somewhere).

I also suggest that you apply immediately as you have 4 months left. My EAD is expiring on Aug 31 and I applied 4.5 months in advance during mid April(receipt date: April 16 2007) and its 100 days since I applied. I am still waiting for my EAD.

Where did you apply? I applied at VSC in Mid April and got transferred to TSC in May and is pending since then..

I had applied at Chicago since thats where I had applied for my 485 last year. I got a letter from Missouri that my case was transferred to California for "faster processing". Case is still pending at California as of now.

I do advise you to apply in advance, say NOW because you will have lots of time to negotiate with them to give you the card. Look at my signature, it may help you...

I applied on Nov. 1st 2006 and jobless now because it has been 9 months since then. Finally they approved it on July 16th and sent it but I have not received it.

Good luck

Better apply for EAD 5-6 months in advance- it's taking longer these days and I'm sure it'd continue for a while. The fee increases after July 30th, so it's in effect now.

This thing with applying EAD 4-5 months in advance has really screwed me over in the last 3 years.
I have had 4 EAD's in 3 years because of this. Every time I applied the EAD 4-5 months in advance the USCIS has approved the EAD within 1 month and the had the EAD effective almost 4 months before the first EAD expired. This way my every EAD was worth only 8 months.
Plus the last EAD was totally useless, the third was expiring in Aug 07, but I got he fourth in June and now got my GC, rendering the 4th useless. Not that I am complaining but got frustrated.

Well i am not trying to make any point here, you cannot absolutely afford to delay your EAD renewal else you might have to stop working for if your renewal doesn't come in time. So 4 month is the right time, in this case you will get the interim EAD.

So just keep watching the processing time. In case USCIS is shelling out EAD's faster you can take a calculated risk.
