Applied for SSN. Will take 12 weeks??

My spouse just applied for SSN today at the Jamaica, NY office. The receipt said that it will take 12 weeks. I never heard that before. What do you guys think??

Since the EAD is new it's not in SSA's records, and therefore it will take several weeks to validate against USCIS's database of employment authorization. 12 weeks is probably the worst case, but I would expect 6-10 weeks.

Wanted to give an update on SSN. It took only about 2 weeks for my wife to recieve SSN even though they told us that it may take up to 12 weeks!
