I applied for PR at Buffalo while studying at a Canadian university. Now I am going to graduate and have to leave Canada by the end of November as my study permit expires. If I don't get PP request within next 2 months, what should I do?

My timeline:
Applied: March 2004
Application started processing: May 5, 2004
IA: June 2005
Medical done, RPRF paid and doc sent: June 15, 2005

They informed me that no interview is required and only the bank statements were requested as additional documents.

Hey Dilum,

Its every student waiting for PR in Canada. Nothing yet is moving for them.
All you can do it try to enroll in other program.

I dont know if you can courier passport from home country to US, and have a friend in Canada to send it to you.

I guess Kenny04 will give us some expert opinion on that. BTW I will be in the same suituation by Jan 2006! Permit experied, course over and no PR.

BTW Applied June 2004
AOR July 2004
IA April 2005, No interview ( sometimes its better to have an interiew as passport is stamped right away )

Waiting

Hi Dilum,

Hopefully you should get the passport request soon but no one can say for sure. The good news for you is that you have an interview waiver. So even if you have to return to your home country you will just have to send your passport to Buffalo to get the visa stamped.

Now the problem is how to send the passport to Buffalo, USA. Some countries consider it illegal to mail passports out of the country (where the passport holder is staying) but others dont. So talk to the relevant govt officials of your home country to find out if you can send your passport by mail to USA.

Second problem is that Buffalo will only mail the passport back to an address in Canada or US. So you will have to provide an address of a friend and then requets her/him to send the passport back to you.

If and when you move out of Canada you will have to inform Buffalo. But try to give a correspondence address of Canada.

Thanks

Thanks Kenny. I am still hopeful I'll receive PP request soon. I didn't expect to face this situation when I applied.

Do you think the length of time they took to sent IA(14.5 months) is abnormal? Does that mean there is a problem with my application. Interestingly they didn't request any additional documents. Do you think I should send them my degree transcripts once I graduate ?

I am reluctant to send them additional stuff fearing it might further delay the process.

Thanks again for your valuable advices.

After IA the background and security checks are initiated. It can take anywhere from 3 months to well over a year to complete the process. So no one can say for sure how long it will take.

I feel that you should definately send them a copy of your degree. Getting additional points is always good.

I think u can stay in canada up to 2 years after graduation for Optional training. aint it right?

No. If you can get a job offer within 90 days of completion of studies, you can work for 1 year. The job should be directly related to what you studied.
