Application Fee For Gc

Hi
I am a bit confused with the application fee for adjustment of status to permanent resident,one is supposed to pay BCIS as an Asylee.Someone I know says its $1000,some people say its less.Please can someone clarify this for me as I am about to file my I485

Yes it`s true about the $1000.00,It`s in form of fine to some applicants who overstayed ther visas and are applying LPR.
That fee does not apply to asylee whatsoever.

are you saying that you paid the penalty fee when you applied for adjustment as an asylee??? And the INS accepted the check? That is strange.
 
No, Gilbert, sorry, I was not clear enought.
I am talking about regular $250.00 fee +$25.oo FP(at that time) only.

I think I know what you meant in your post.

REFUGEES applying for adjustment do NOT pay the application fee at all. They are only responsible for the fingerprint fee.

ASYLEES ARE subject to the application fee. As you noted, you can request a fee waiver on an individual basis. But think about it only if you are in deep financial difficulty. The BCIS generally frowns on waiver requests.
