Application Citizenship for Child

Hi,

I am about to apply for US citizenship based on 5 years residence after green card. My daughter (9 years old) got the green card the same day as I did, and she is eligible to apply the citizenship too.

I understand I need to file N-400 for myself. What form should I file for my daughter? Thanks a lot.

None. Your daughter will automatically naturalize when you do.

Thanks. I appreciate it.

If she gets her citizenship automatically after I get mine, what document does she need when she applies her passport? Will she get a certificate of citizenship or something after I take the oath?

Thanks.

You can get her PP made based on copy of your N400 certificate and other documents like birth certificate etc. You also have option to apply for her Naturalization certificate. That application is N-600, which can be applied after you or your spouse get N400 approved. Again some people go only with PP while some people want to go with PP and N-600. It is you choice to go with one or both. Good luck

Thanks a lot for your response.

In your timeline summary, it looks like that you received text message updates when your case status changes. How did you do that?

Thanks.

When you apply for N-400 you will get a case/receipt number. You can check status of you case on USCIS status page at https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/jsps/login.jsp;jsessionid=cabV5ZtlemY_j4Y1VdWFs using this number. You can also create a user account and register a cell number and/or email to get case status update as text and/or email message.

Just to clarify. With a N-600 the document that is given is a certificate of citizenship. Technically speaking the child doesn't naturalize. Derives citizenship automatically from the parent/s that naturalize.
