Hey guys,

I’ve looked around but haven't seen many threads about this (maybe because the answer is really obvious, i don't know) and can't find a conclusive answer on the official site for the bureau of consular affairs. The question is if i should obtain Apostilles for any or all of my documents for the greencard interview? Is there a general rule (for European Embassies)? I know the safest would be to get it for all of my documents but is it really necessary. My documents will be German (e.g. police certificate and school diploma) and Danish for the US Embassy in Denmark. BTW: this question only concerns the Apostille and not the translation of the documents.

Thanks for your help.

Hi,
For us You should send the original document to the state Secretary of State or equivalent official OF YOUR STATE which is the authority competent to execute the Apostille for documents originating within their jurisdiction, including state courts. Documents originating in Hawaii and the U.S. Virgin Islands may obtain the Apostille from the Authentication Office of the U.S. Department of State. Addresses for the above mentioned offices may be obtained upon request or visiting the following web sites

For me it sounds you wanna spam the forum with your link or do you think this thread needed an answer after two years?

Some governments require you to authenticate your documents before you can use them to apply for your teaching visa. If you are required to get documents authenticated you will have to take them or send them to a specific office. Each state charges slightly different fees. Please be sure to check this list for the Apostille or the office for authentication nearest to you.

Always remember, we don't make the rules, we are just giving you information about how to comply.

Apostille offices will only certify documents issued in that state.

Apostilles generally are required whenever a document from one country is intended to be used in another country. No one above mentioned that not every country will accept the Apostille to begin with no matter whether the document originated in the United States or Europe.
In the United Sates apostille is a separate page affixed to the document indicating to foreign authorities that the document is valid within the United States. Also, in order to determine whether or not you need to get an Apostille or undergo a process called Foreign Certification please refer to the list of countries who signed the Hague Convention of 1961 in regards to Apostille.
For more information about what an Apostille is you can check out the web-based information on Apostille in the United States.
Additionally, it is best to contact target authorities to determine fist of all a list of the documents that will require from you in order to achieve your goal as well as to determine the level and process of document legalization.

Hope this helps.
