After I file a renewal for my current AP, if I don't get the renewal before I leave USA, I know the renewal application is consider abandoned, but I am not sure if the my current one can be still be used to enter USA before its expiration date?

Yes you can use the current one before it expires regardless of the fact what happens to the other one.

No it's not. Who gave you that idea? As the post above mentioned, you can still use the old one as long as you reenter before it expires, but the new one can then be used after you return and want to depart the US again (though it cannot be used to extend your current trip; only for future trips).
