AP Travel. current one expiring.. applied for another

Here is my situation.

I'm planning to travel on AP that will expire when I'm out of the country.

I have applied for another AP on July 20th, 2006 (VSC). My current AP expires Oct 3rd week. I'm planning to leave Oct 2nd week and return Nov 2nd week. I have booked non-refundable tickets hoping I will get AP before my travel date. (My last EAD & AP was approved in 10 days! This time only EAD got approved quickly, though I have applied for both together.)

But if the new one doesn't get approved before my travel date, can I still leave under the hope it will get approved before I come back (or worst case, I can extend my stay a little bit until it is approved) and use the new AP to reenter that my friend will mail it to me once it is approved?

---------------- your present AP is going to expire BEFORE you plan to come back, wait for new AP approval and then go out of US. new AP need to be approved BEFORE you go out of US if you want to use new AP for entry to US. better go out with the approved AP in hand.
