AP Travel and future H4 extension

Guys,

My wife is planning to travel to India. She has AP and H4 approval notice valid until Ap 07. But the H4 visa stamp is expired. If she uses AP to reenter will she be able to do H4 extension in the future? I know H1 extensions in these situation are valid, but not sure about H4. Any expert advice or pointers to web sites is really appreciated?
